I'd like to pay this cheque in, please pharmaion But the reality doesn’t quite fit with this model, especially in the acute services of health care. There is no primordial soup of embryonic A&E services to grow into the evolutionary space left when one fails; more specifically, there just isn’t the infrastructure in place to support such a model. The private sector has yet to colonise acute services because the nature of the work depends on resources that are not profitable to set up. A&E is a complex area and it relies on input from too many specialities. The current model of market forces in the NHS does not apply.
